Aftercare for Dermal Fillers
including lips and tear troughs

Immediately after treatment, it is likely there will be some redness, swelling, tenderness and perhaps an itching sensation in the treated area. This is a normal result of the injections. These symptoms are temporary and generally disappear within a few days.

Preferably DON’T TOUCH THE AREA AT ALL FOR A FEW HOURS! BUT….Mineral make-up may be applied immediately and other makeup after 6 hours. Until the initial swelling and redness have resolved, do not expose the treated area to intense heat (e.g. sunbeds, saunas, sunbathing) or extreme cold.

Although the effects of fillers are immediate, local swelling may mean that the final results are different from the appearance immediately following treatment.

The initial swelling after lip treatment may last longer. Some patients experience swelling for about a week and the lips can look somewhat uneven during this time. This means that the result directly after the treatment should not be seen as the final result- don't panic!

With tear trough treatments the final result takes up to 6 weeks as the light reflecting pigments in the product begin to work.

Sometimes it can be beneficial to firmly massage any lumpy areas of filler especially in the lips/tear trough areas but please check with your practitioner as in some other areas lumps may be a normal part of the process to achieving the desired result (eg jawline)

If you experience anything that concerns you then please contact us at any time. In particular please contact us immediately if there is any significant pain (mild discomfort and tenderness is acceptable) or if you notice any change in temperature of the treated area or numbness. Also contact us if you notice any breaks in the skin, white patches, blistering or more extensive bruising than you would expect. Significant complications are rare but should be dealt with quickly so it's important we know of any potential problems.

A small amount of Arnica Gel may be applied to any bruises up to 4 times daily.
Antihistamines may be taken to reduce any swelling.

Avoid alcohol.
